Experience
I created this site to be very transparent so anyone visiting could get to know me in a way that just a resume can’t convey.
Overall experience:
Before high school: Babysitting
During high school: Babysitting, retail (clothing and art), food service (ice cream shop), telemarketing, donation retention
During college: Administrative assistant, retail (clothing), school library (periodicals), mystery shopping
My degree is from the college of communications and was considered part of the journalism department; however, my emphasis was on advertising. During my senior year, a required class involved doing all of the advertising in the school newspaper. That semester, I was the ONLY person taking that class, so I had to do everything by myself rather than share the workload with my peers. I handled everything - from selling the ad space to designing the ads to mocking them up in the paper.
Immediately after college: Sales
I learned quickly in my first job (selling copiers and fax machines) that sales was not my passion. Soon after, I moved from my college area to another state.
After moving to the Atlanta area, I performed a variety of office jobs through staffing agencies while often having a part-time job. My part-time jobs included retail (clothing), receptionist at a busy downtown hair salon, and at a tanning salon. The reason for the part-time jobs was to save for a month-long trip to Europe.
The month-long trip to Europe: My friend and I planned for over a year, and we made that trip happen. For some reason, I ended up being the one to do a lot of the planning and researching. Even though this was not for work, I feel planning for and organizing the trip improved my skill set. The trip itself was amazing, and still one of my proudest accomplishments.
After the trip, I found a full-time position (CCG Advisors) and learned a lot about a new industry. This job was impacted by 9/11 and I was laid off after a few months.
I eventually found my way back to marketing with a side of event planning with Space Flooring. During this time, I bought my house (all on my own - and one of my other proudest accomplishments). Unfortunately, there were layoffs and I once again had to figure things out.
I tried a lot of things during this time, including bartending (something I'd always wanted to do since college), temp work in a variety of offices, and a different form of marketing by being a brand ambassador.
Through an interesting turn of events, I started working for a production company and my love of video began. When that position ended due to the economic downturn of 2008-2009, I began to teach myself the ins and outs of online marketing. I continually expanded my skills so that I could offer a variety of services and marketing techniques to individuals and businesses.
My Book
To showcase my knowledge, I published this book. It's currently out of print due to a lot of information becoming outdated or irrelevant.
